A LLANELLI teen has made his mark on the cyber world after having a computer game accepted onto the Apple App Store.

Alfie Hopkin, 14, of Pwll, helped to design the festive game Present Collect while taking part in Swansea University's Technocamps scheme.

And after a few tweaks and developments at home, the Glan y Mor School student submitted the game to Apple — and was delighted when it was accepted.

His dad Steve said: "We were all really pleased for Alfie, and we're very proud of him.

"The game came from a few lads who were invited to Technocamps — which is usually only for youngsters over 16 — and was a group effort.

"I encouraged him to develop it more afterwards and he signed up to the app development programme so he could move it along.

"He redeveloped its interface and things like that, and he had more than 1,000 downloads in a week.

"He is pretty chuffed about it."

The aim of Present Collect is to help Santa gather as many packages as possible, without landing on snow or hitting any of the obstacles.

"It's quite a simple concept, but it's pretty challenging," Steve said.

"It's had a few reviews so far, which is really good — hopefully it will encourage him to keep going with this sort of thing."

Steve added that Alfie has shown a talent for working with computers, and hoped his success would spur others on.

"He has grown up with computers, and last year he built his own PC," he said.

"I stood over him in case he needed advice, but he was more than capable of it.

"Kids are like sponges when it comes to taking in new information, and hopefully more youngsters will be encouraged to see what they can do."
