A LLANELLI man is hoping to turn the town green.

Adrian Matthews, director of The Green Brand, has teamed up with inventor Rupert Sweet-Escott, to help manufacture discreet wind turbines.

The new scheme — that is hoped to bring 10 jobs to the area — will help schools, groups and offices use wind power to generate electricity.

The 'chimney pot' or Secret Energy Turbine (SET) is a small wind turbine, and it is hoped that government grants for microgeneration equipment and the new feed-in tariff will encourage investment.

During the BBC's Dragons' Den programme, Mr Sweet-Escott managed to secure £80,000 investment from James Caan for the production of his turbines.

Following on from his success, he is now working with Mr Matthews, of Hick Street, to set up the first new UK manufacturing plant for SET technology.

Mr Matthews said he hopes to employ around 10 people directly.

"I am hoping to have the workshop in Llanelli set up in the next six months," he said. "Mr Sweet-Escott wants us to make 50 turbines a week."
