PROBABLY best known as the preening Dr Dick Solomon in fish-out-of-water alien romp 3rd Rock From The Sun, John Lithgow takes on a similarly goofy, if more literary, role in the National Theatre Live's latest screening.

The amiable Victorian farce, The Magistrate, takes to the bench at Swansea University's Taliesin Arts Centre this Sunday.

A bit of an odd topic for modern audiences to take on board, the piece sees its heroine forge a second marriage to a dour magistrate, telling him she is five years younger than she actually is.

Lithgow, by all accounts, makes an amiable and engaging fist of 19th century farce.
