PREPARATIONS are under way for the first Dinefwr Literature Festival, near Llandeilo.

The event, a collaboration between Literature Wales, the National Trust, and the University of Wales Trinity Saint David, will run from Friday, June 29, to Sunday, July 1.

Jacqui Kedward, Carmarthenshire's National Trust property manager, said: "We are very excited Carmarthenshire has been chosen to host such an exciting project and are delighted the National Trust is one of the partners working together to make it happen.

"An event of this importance will have massive benefits for Carmarthenshire through helping to establish it as a venue for lovers of literature and culture and encouraging visitors to return."

The Arts Council of Wales awarded £65,000 to the bilingual festival, which will feature a mix of literature, music, comedy, cinema and children's activities.

The line-up will include award- winning novelists, local storytellers, poets, children's authors, singer-songwriters, plus a host of fringe acts to appeal to children and adults alike.

The festival site will have a dedicated camping field to set up for the weekend.

Early bird adult weekend tickets are £48 and £5.50 for children.

Organisers say they have decided to close the park to non-ticket holders on the grounds of safety. It will reopen on July 2.
