Liberty revamp to meet new Premier League guidelines
PLANS for a major revamp of the Liberty Stadium's main entrance, a new press area and hundreds of extra seats have been revealed.
Swansea City FC chairman Huw Jenkins wants to alter the central section of the West Stand to comply with new Premier League broadcasting requirements for next season.
If the plans are given the go-ahead by Swansea Council, a new glass-fronted entrance will be built, flanked by two pillars: one with the Swans club logo on it, the other with the Ospreys logo.
The current press section will be moved to a new fourth floor area to accommodate 120 journalists.

An extra 705 seats will be added for fans, plus associated hospitality and new staircases.
But the actual stadium "bowl" as you see it now won't be altered.
It is understood Swansea Council has requested a transport study to be submitted by the Europe-bound football club. Mr Jenkins has previously spoken about proposals for up to 12,000 new seats in the east, north and south stands.
A planning application is due to be submitted in the not too distant future.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the current application said better media facilities were required as part of new broadcasting arrangements. Premier League clubs are in line for millions of pounds more revenue next season, with around half of all broadcasting income now coming from overseas media companies.
A design and access statement submitted as part of the application cited a Cardiff University report which said the Swans' first season in the Premier League contributed some £58 million to the local economy.
It said the football club and the Ospreys were a big part of Swansea and the surrounding area.
"Their success contributes to a sense of pride that residents have in their city," said the report.
It pointed out most Swans home matches were sell outs and that there was a waiting list for season tickets.
The stadium also hosts concerts, corporate events and weddings and is run by the Stadium Management Company, which has Swans, Ospreys and council representatives on its board.
"The Stadium Management Company have been key in advising on these requirements and programming to ensure that works can be completed with minimal disruption," added the report.

“A carefully elected team (involving Swansea MP's , regional AM's ,council regeneration leader and appropriate business leaders ) should now be paving the way for rail investment at Landore so a Swansea central rail station to Liberty stadium link can be set up within an ambitious timescale.
This team can be called VIP ...vital infrastructure programme - it would surely fit with connectivity and regeneration of Swansea's High Street & city centre”

As I said the club have sold their allocation every home game, and I would think that the club would be in a better position to know that instead of some anonymous idiot posting on a an article with the post. The offcial attendance for that game was 20,529 , how many does the stadium hold ? IDIOT!”

“Jagermessedup, strange I was able to get a ticket no problem on day of QPR at about 2.40 and was asked how many would I like, numptys like you think with expansion of 12,000 we will sell out every game, the big games we may but the REAL Swans fans (NOT PLASTIC BOYS) know we will have games with quite a few empty seats in the home end, suggest you lay off the shandy”

What a stupid and misinformed post, the club has sold out every game at the home end! It is hardly their fault that in some games only a few hundred away fans have made the trip! And where are these people on normal match days? The answer is simple propbably at home because the Liberty is sold out! IDIOT!”

“I keep seeing that SCFC has brought £58 million extra revenue into Swansea. Does that satisfy the people who complain about the stadium not paying much rent to the council?
Any expansion has to be a good thing, we continue to grow but within affordable parameters. Swansea City, good for football and good for our city. Could we be any more proud of what our club has become?
Huw Jenkins and the board deserve all the recognition they get.”

“Will take the stadium capacity up well over 21k, which is a very good thing without a huge outlay, and it will give the chance of people to get their hands on season tickets, as well as some more matchday tickets.
If there is going to be an expansion of 12k though we can expect a stadium of 33k which should satisfy just about everyone.”
