Let's get fizz-ical
If you're looking for a classy bottle of bubbles to toast Wales' victory over Samoa tomorrow (am I tempting fate here?) then head for the delicious 1531 Blanquette de Limoux (£9.99, Tesco)
The Limoux area of southern France has a long history of making sparkling wines — certainly a lot longer than the famous Champagne region. Indeed Limoux proudly lays claim to inventing fizz, when monks at the Benedictine Abbey St Hilaire first trapped bubbles in wine back in 1531.
Whatever the origin, one thing is certain — this Tesco bottle is a cracker, and a great value alternative to champers.
Made from the local Mauzac grape, the 1531 has aromas of freshly baked biscuits with a subtle apply, toasty but fresh palate. And what makes it even tastier is that it is only half the price of champagne...
