FRANK Lampard is the one player I’d love to arrive at Swansea City when the transfer window opens in four days’ time.

Lampard looks to be on his way out of Chelsea after reportedly being told he can find another club.

  1. Frank Lampard

And I think he would be the perfect addition to Michael Laudrup’s side.

Generally speaking, I believe it’s more important Swansea hang on to their prize assets rather than look to recruit in January.

For me, the story of the season so far has been how well squad players have performed when called upon.

Ben Davies has excelled at left-back after Neil Taylor’s horrific ankle injury handed him a chance.

Garry Monk proved he still has something to offer by producing a string of top-level displays when Chico Flores missed a few games.

And Gerhard Tremmel demonstrated he is a more than able deputy for Michel Vorm, who recently returned from a groin problem.

The performances of those players underlines the strength in depth Swansea have in defence.

And as far as full-backs are concerned, there is always Dwight Tiendalli and Jazz Richards who can come in if needed.

Tiendalli impressed me when I saw him play at Liverpool in the Capital One Cup two months ago and he has as been consistently excellent ever since.

The 27-year-old has definitely earned his spurs and deserves to be offered a longer contract when the short-term agreement he signed in September expires this summer.

When Pablo Hernandez returns to fitness, I also think Swansea have enough cover in wide positions as Nathan Dyer and Wayne Routledge can also play on either flank.

The one thing Swansea could do with adding to their squad is goals.

Michu has proved a scoring sensation this season but if he picked up an injury, suddenly Swansea would look short of firepower.

One option is to sign a proven striker who could play in front of Michu.

But I think the former Rayo Vallecano man’s best position is up front.

That means Swansea may be better off recruiting a goalscoring midfielder — and Lampard is exactly that kind of player.

Realistically, half the Premier League will be chasing the England international — not to mention a number of sides on the continent.

But I think Swansea should definitely make sure they are in that group.

While Lampard may not be interested in the move and wages would surely be an issue, I see no reason why Swansea should not be able to compete for a player of Frank’s calibre.

Remember, he made his Football League debut for Swansea and would fit perfectly into the club’s philosophy.

Swansea sit tenth in the Premier League and look set to seal another top-flight season.

They are rapidly establishing themselves at the highest level, so why should players like Lampard be out of reach?

Stoke have signed the likes of Peter Crouch and Michael Owen in recent seasons, and I see Swansea in the same bracket as them.

And what a lift for supporters if Lampard were to arrive.

“Cresswell1, who do you suport then, a team you have no links to and live nowhere near because they're successful I suppose?
I'd rather support a mickey mouse team than be a sad glory chasing plastic.

Now then, how many top 6 sides have beaten us this season so far?

DanEGraig player managers are for lower division teams, maybe we'll be back down there one day, but until then we want younger, hungry players. Not expensive players at the tail end of their careers.
And I honestly think Lampard will play on and only manage when he has quit playing, if he does at all.”

“He wouldn't fit in, he has developed himself an ego and expects to be allowed to give input in how a team plays and who is selected. We can do without that.”

“I think Leighton had a few sherries if he thinks we can get Lampard. There will still be top end clubs coming in for him.
What we need is a striker to take pressure off Michu. Not a 34 year old money pit.”

“Its a problem that ml must find salution to, mitchu;s best position is behind the striker , but that leaves us a little short in midfield with only a choice of 2 out of jdg ,leon .ki, or augustian, none of which are goal scorers, and any of the 2 in midfield do not control as well as when we play with 3, In playing mitchu up front we control the midield with the 3 ,but we dont score the goals, You could go for Mitchu up front and play a scoring midfielder, , but i think getting a really good striker who is going to get his 10 or 12 goals is the answer to the problem, one other option(which would be my choice) is to play with only one of our wing men , 3 in midfield, mitchu behind the new striker”
