Leaders Cwmgors grind out a thrilling victory
LEADERS Cwmgors made it five wins out of five in division four south west with a thrilling 39-33 win at Bridgend Sports.
Cwmgors, missing a few regulars due to a wedding and several injuries, only led 20-19 at half-time but kept plugging away in what turned out to be their hardest test so far.
Man of the match Ethan Price bagged a try, as did Darryl John and Robert Clive, with Steff Rees banging over every conversion and six penalties.
There was no joy for the three Swansea Valley sides in the division.
Seventh-placed Vardre lost 38-6 at Pyle, third-from-bottom Pontardawe crashed 58-17 at home to Cefn Cribwr, whose first win of the season it was, and second- from-bottom Cwmtwrch went down 34-7 at home to unbeaten Aberavon Green Stars.
Cwmavon saw off visitors Briton Ferry 36-12, scoring five tries in the process.
Two each went to full-back Scott Davies and lock Steve Evans, and one to flanker Greg Rogers. Fly-half Cameron Bamford added three conversions and a penalty, and replacement Arron Lewis landed one conversion.
Scrum-half Calum Surman and centre Ross Jones got Ferry's tries.
Winless Betws remain bottom after they lost 52-17 to visiting Nantyffyllon despite having led 12-0. The Betws try-scorers were lock Paul Rees and full-back Steffan Howells.
