I WOULD like to encourage readers to contribute to Cymdeithas yr Iaith Gymraeg's manifesto which we published as a response to the language crisis highlighted by the recently-released Census results.

According to the Census, there were 20,000 fewer Welsh speakers in Wales down to 19 per cent of the population. The Welsh Government target was to increase the number of speakers by five per cent.

Anyone can contribute to our manifesto on Twitter by using #maniffestobyw, writing to us, or emailing post@cymdeithas.org.

“Children who attend Welsh language schools are preferring to speak English outside of the classrooms. They are making their own choice and that pretty much heralds the death of the language, within the next 20 years. No one can be forced to speak Welsh and no number of petitions, manifestos, think tanks and general blabbering will change that simple fact.

Time to look on the positive side. Think of the money Wales will be saving in the near future.”

“If no one is turning up to your party doesn't that tell you something?”
