A MUCKY Swansea lane got a right old spruce-up from 20-plus Birchgrove residents.

They gave up their spare time on a Sunday morning to take on the clean-up operation.

By the end of it they had filled more than 50 bin bags of rubbish from a lane off Heol Dulais, which had looked a mess for a while.

The litter pick was organised by the Birchgrove Community Association and Keep Wales Tidy.

Phillip Davies, of Keep Wales Tidy, said it was important to keep communities clean. "Birchgrove has many areas where litter blights the local environment," he said.

"Local people getting involved today shows how passionate they are in trying to make a difference."

More litter picks are in the pipeline, and the community association is looking for local volunteers to get involved.
