DISMAL weather conditions did not deter hundreds of women from turning out to take part in Llanelli's Great Welsh Walkathon on Sunday.

Ladies from across the UK, and as far afield as Aberdeen, turned out for the third annual event, which raises funds for Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust.

The walk saw a crowd of women take to the Millennium Coastal Path after an energetic group warm-up, to walk the 5k, 10k or half-marathon route.

Organiser Tim Gasser, of Human Being Active, said: "Considering the weather, and the dramatic change we had from last week's perfect conditions to this wind and rain, it went fantastically well.

"The weather didn't dampen anyone's spirits, and everyone really enjoyed the walk — the scenery can't be beaten.

"We had participants from across the UK, and one lady even made a 12-hour journey from Aberdeen to take part.

"Then there were also ladies from London and Manchester who also travelled down for the event."

The walk raises funds for Jo's Cervical Cancer Trust, which provides information, emotional and practical support to women, their families and friends affected by cervical abnormalities and cervical cancer.

The trust is there to ensure that women never feel alone at any stage of their journey by providing easily accessible information and support 24 hours a day.
