LIVING WAGE DATE SET?
A TRADE Union boss has written to his members saying The Living Wage will be implemented next month.
Unison's Eddie Gabrielsen said he had dispatched letters telling union members the good news.
The Living Wage, with its £7.45 hourly rate, was a Labour commitment when it came to power in Swansea in 2012.
Mr Gabrielsen said up to 3,500 council workers will receive a pay rise as a result.
The majority of beneficiaries will be school staff, said Mr Gabrielsen. He said: "This is good news for small businesses, as these people will spend the money locally and help the local economy."
Swansea Council has said the Living Wage will be backdated to April 2013 for those entitled to it.
But it said there were still some technical issues to iron out before a date could be confirmed.
