This year, in addition to diabetic screening, the Port Talbot Lions with the help of local nurses also carried out blood pressure checks. This free of charge service allowed the members of the public to get a quick health MOT.
A total of 100 people attended the event, out of which 70 where tested for diabetes and high blood pressure. This screening highlights any underlying conditions which they may not be aware of, thus prompting them to seek medical advice and help from their local GP.
"I congratulate the Port Talbot Lions on the success of their second health check day. It is important for each of us to regularly have a basic health check and I applaud the efforts of the Lions and the staff of the Kings surgery in providing this service and raising awareness on the day." David Rees Am who attended the day.
"The day was really beneficial, both Diabetes and Hypertension (high blood pressure) are quite often unseen to the individual, so a screening day like Saturday can be so beneficial in highlighting these important health issues - well worth us donating our time and well done the Lions for arranging a day like this" Caroline Ashwood Kings Surgrey Nurse who carried out the testing.
Lions members thank everyone who has contributed to this important work especially Network Training Service for the use of the facilities and Caroline Ashwood for her help. You are truly helping Lions make a difference in our community."
