SCARLETS prop Kees Meeuws is set to return to New Zealand, the Evening Post understands.

The 34-year-old prop still has another year left on his contract, but Meeuws and the Scarlets have agreed for the All Black to head home early.

Meeuws, who played 42 Tests for New Zealand, signed from French club Castres on a two-year deal at the start of last season, but missed the majority of the campaign after rupturing an Achilles tendon against Munster in November.

He returned for the final match of the season against Ulster, but there has been speculation over his future ever since the Scarlets announced the arrival of another tight-head prop, Wales international Rhys Thomas from the Dragons.

“Some of you fellas want to grow up.Every region in Wales has its problems.if we all start behaving like soccer fans we will all fail. There are plenty of critics of Welsh rugby outside of Wales dont give them ammunition.”

“Ceri Beynon Cwmdu, the Scarlets average attendance last season was only a few hundred less than yours, even though we had a awful season.I wouldn't expect anyone east of the Loughour to give us any sympathy, but I warn you be careful of what you wish for,it is only the Mike Cuddy et al moneythat is keeping the Swansea,Neath club afloat in its present form.”

“I'll shed no tears for the Scarlets but I think this is a move to be applauded. Overpaid past it foreigner out, and Welsh prospect given an opportunity.”

“The scarlets are in a mess.
Poor on the field, low crowds and losing money off it.

They choose to stand alone now lets all watch them fall alone.

No one east of the loughour bridge will shed a tear for their demise”
