Kidwelly ladies' rugby club share laughs over national publicity from player pregnancies
KIDWELLY ladies' rugby club say they have shared a few laughs over the national publicity attracted by an appeal for new players.
Team manager Kim Hulance made the call last month after a number of their squad left due to falling pregnant.
But after first featuring in the Star, to the team's astonishment, the story appeared in a string of publications including The Sun and Metro newspapers and on Classic FM and BBC Radio Wales.
"It got a lot more publicity than I ever thought it would," Miss Hulance said.
"I got interviewed on Radio Wales and it was in the national newspapers.
"The likes of ITV and Heno on S4C want to come down and film us.
"It got loads of interest and it is all good for female rugby, so there was a lot of positives on how it got out there nationally.
"I have spoken with the girls who are pregnant and we have all had a good few laughs about it."
The ladies, who will be competing in Wales Rugby Union Ladies' Division 3, will be kicking off their season on Sunday, September 1 against Haverfordwest at Parc Stephens at 2.30pm.
And although they have had a few new faces coming forward as a result of the appeal, they are still encouraging anyone who feels they can play a part to get in touch.
"We have had three people interested," Miss Hulance said.
"One has been training for the last couple of weeks but unfortunately she will not be able to play until she is 18, and someone I used to play with for many years got in touch and is interested to play but is getting married soon so that will take priority for now.
"We are still encouraging more players to come forward and get in touch if they would like to be part of the team."
