AFTER a break in action for the Wales v New Zealand showdown, it's back to business for Gwendraeth Valley clubs in the National League this coming Saturday.

Kidwelly and Pontyberem sit fifth and sixth respectively in division two west but will probably fall short of the title, which looks set to be fought out between leaders Maesteg, Llandovery, Loughor and Waunarlwydd.

Hot favourites at 11-8 for glory are Maesteg, who are a point ahead of BP Llandarcy and two clear of Loughor.

Kidwelly showed they can stand toe to toe with two of the big guns when defeating BP Llandarcy 22-16 on their own ground and only going down narrowly 18-15 at Loughor.

But Maesteg proved a different kettle of fish at Parc Stephens, looking a class act when defeating Kidwelly 38-18. Next up for Kidwelly is a tricky clash at Ammanford.

Pontyberem are just a point behind Kidwelly, boasting a 100 per cent record from their four games played at home.

The victims at Pontyberem Park were Ammanford, Mumbles, Dunvant and Waunarlwydd, but the game against Maesteg on Saturday is their toughest task to date.

The visitors' success revolves around a big front five and a solid pack, which is likely to get the better of a lighter eight. If Bont don't hold their own here it could be a long 80 minutes.

Gwendraeth Valley neighbours Tumble are riding on the crest of a wave in division four west, second in the table just three points adrift but with a game in hand on Milford Haven.

The one slip-up from Tumble came at Cwmamman Park, which saw Amman United defy the odds when cruising to a stunning 49-14 victory.

Tumble take the short journey down the valley to Burry Port next Saturday.

Third-placed Cefneithin are also in with a shout of the title, locked on the same number of league points as Tumble but having played a game more. Cefneithin will look to keep the pressure on the top two with a bonus-point win at Hendy.

For Trimsaran the first couple of months of the season have been a nightmare, and they are still seeking their first win in the league.

They have a long injury list, with key players sidelined, but Trimsaran get a golden opportunity to strike on Saturday when hosting lowly Pembroke Dock Quins.

And in division five west, something must give in the clash involving Pontyates and visiting Swansea Uplands.

Both clubs are without a point in the league this season.
