Kids watched in fear as gunman demanded cash from Llanelli takeaway worker

A LLANELLI takeaway worker has relived the terrifying moment when a gunman burst in demanding money.

Two children reportedly watched in fear as armed robbers raided the Samraat restaurant, at Heol Gwili, Cefncaeau, on Saturday night, holding up four staff members.

"They were shouting to get the money and pointed a gun," said worker Mark Hassan, 42.

"A little girl was here, aged 14-15, and another, aged 9, or 10.

"They were very scared and we told them to go, the gunman let them go.

"It was a sheer moment of madness — it was very, very terrifying."

He described how one raider reached over the counter and took a safe.

Mr Hassan, who was held up with takeaway owner Mojlish Miah, 59, worker Aylun Haque, 46, and a lady named by him only as Mandy, said he had tried to leave during the raid, but found his way blocked at the door.

"A man was waiting there with a knife," he said.

The culprits made off with a cream-coloured safe containing a quantity of cash during the incident, after which two men were seen running towards an alley between houses into Brynsierfel, Llwynhendy.

No-one was injured during the alleged robbery, which sparked a major police operation.

Five people have already been quizzed in connection with the incident.

Dyfed-Powys Police said they had arrested two 20-year-old men, a 19-year-old man and 21-year-old man, as well as a 17-year-old youth, on suspicion of robbery.

They have all been released on bail pending further inquiries, with police saying they are still appealing for information on the raid, which happened at around 10.10pm.

One raider was wearing a purple hooded top with the hood up over his head, a scarf across his face and gloves on his hands. He was slim build, and about five foot 10.

Another was wearing a light coloured or possibly white hooded top with the hood over his head, and also had a scarf across his face.

The hoodie had the words Crosshatch in big writing across the chest. He is also described as slim build and both men had a local accent.

Police have conducted extensive inquiries, including house-to-house and the use of the force helicopter and dogs, and urge anyone with information to call 101.

A force spokeswoman urged people not to confront raiders in this type of situation, but to call police immediately.
