The Stonegate Pub Company spent £170,000 on a complete re-fit of the Yates's venue on the corner of Wind Street and Caer Street in 2012.
The bar reopened in November last year with a guest appearance by former Hollyoaks soap star Ricky Whittle.
The redesign of the venue included the installation of a giant LED video which was one of the first to be installed in Yates's pubs across the UK. Stonegate has now invested a further £120,000 in the Reflex bar on Wind Street to convert it into Popworld.
Recruiting
The venue closed yesterday and is due to undergo a two-week refit.
The investment in the venue will see all current staff retained and 17 additional jobs created.
Popworld manager Carly Sailsbury said: "We are delighted to be bringing Popworld to Swansea, it will be the first Popworld to open in Wales and we confident that it will be a fantastic success.
"One of the reasons that we're recruiting so many new staff is that, core to the Popworld offer, is ensuring the very best in customer service which includes waitress service in our new VIP areas.
"The area includes two booths which are going to be the height of comfort and luxury and they are perfect for large groups wanting to celebrate a great night out.
"Customers will be able to relax in comfortable, stylish surroundings and enjoy the evening, knowing that they'll be looked after and served drinks by our fantastic staff.
"The idea behind Popworld is that it is a late-night bar that celebrates and wholly embraces pop music, from the 1990s to the present day, as well as its trademark anthemic 1980s music, you know, music that gets you singing and up on the dance floor."
