NEWCASTLE Emlyn moved into fourth spot in the MacWhirter Welsh League before this weekend's big clash with UWIC at Parc Emlyn.

If the Teifisiders can pick up maximum points they will leapfrog their rivals and occupy one of the three promotion slots with three games in hand over the Cardiff students

It was a fine all-round team performance that carried the day for the visitors against opponents who belied their lowly league position with some neat one-touch football but lacked firepower up front.

Emlyn, who were without suspended skipper Owen Thomas and Sam Thomas, were indebted to goalkeeper Kieran Cutlan on three occasions and he capped a fine performance with a penalty save.

Anthony Owen put the visitors in front midway through the first half when he controlled a cross and found the net with a left-footed volley.

Early in the second period Adam Raymond doubled the lead before he made it 3-0.

Alex Vincent, a new signing from Carmarthen Town who was previously with Llandysul, showed up well for the Reds with the speedy 17-year-old showing he will be a big acquisition for the club.
