Jonathan Davies set to return to Scarlets action
BRITISH Lions centre Jonathan Davies is set to make his much-anticipated return to action after being named on the bench for the Scarlets' RaboDirect Pro12 clash with Treviso in Llanelli on Saturday (6.30).
Davies's comeback is a timely one as the West Wales region look for a confidence boost in the wake of their opening night hammering at the hands of Leinster.
Head coach Simon Easterby has kept faith with the majority of the starting line-up that took the field against the Dubliners with 19-year-old Jordan Williams replacing injured wing Kristian Phillips the lone change.
New signing John Barclay is still absent as he recovers from shoulder surgery, with Davies one of three changes on the bench with Nick Reynolds and prop Deacon Manu called up.
The Scarlets will be wary of Treviso's threat following the embarrassing 41-17 defeat suffered against the Italians at the end of last season.
And the home coaching team have demanded a much-improved display in front of their own fans.
“We’re fully aware our ball retention in the second half against Leinster was abysmal,” said forwards coach Danny Wilson. “It was probably the worst since I have been here.
“We didn’t see that coming after being in control in the first half and I’m hoping it’s a one-off.
“The boys have addressed it this week in training.”
On Davies's return, Wilson added: "It's great for the team to have Jon back in the shirt - we saw what he did in the summer and his team-mates can feed off his confidence, energy and leadership and alongside the other senior players in our team hopefully we can improve on what happened in our first game."
