In Neath Port Talbot the number of people out of work and claiming Jobseeker’s Allowance rose in the same period from 3,468 to 3,594.

The picture in Carmarthenshire was similar as the claimant count rose from 3,625 in January to 3,737 in February.

Across Wales as a whole the number of people out of work and claiming rose from 77,500 to 77,700.

Ahead of delivering his budget, the Chancellor has also chosen today to make his debut on social networking site Twitter.

Mr Osborne launched his Twitter account this morning and by 9am had more than 10,500 followers.

His inaugural message to the world was: "Today I'll present a Budget that tackles the economy's head on helping those who want to work hard and get on."

The message was joined by a picture of Mr Osborne writing at his desk with the familiar red Budget box in the photo.
