Johnson looks to improve at ruck
THE Ospreys are targeting a major improvement at the breakdown against Glasgow tomorrow evening after being routed by Martyn Williams last weekend.
The Lions openside, backed by Gareth Williams and Sam Warburton, paved the way for the Blues' 20-12 win at the Cardiff City Stadium by achieving a landslide of turnovers.
The capital side switched possession 16 times at ruck situations. Another turnover count suggested the Ospreys had lost 23, while the region themselves were talking about 30.
Whatever the figure, director of coaching Scott Johnson acknowledged there had to be a major improvement in that area against the Scots.
''It was a disappointing part of our game against the Blues,'' he said. ''No excuses, we let ourselves down in contact. It goes without saying we are looking for a better performance.''
The Ospreys were without Marty Holah last weekend, but so dominant were the Blues the odds would have still been stacked against the visitors even if the Kiwi had been playing. ''Marty and Steve Tandy are different types of players,'' said Johnson.
''We missed Marty, but Martyn Williams was superb. Considering it was his first game back he played terrifically.''
