Jobs boost after U-turn at former MoD site
HUNDREDS of jobs could be on the way to Llanelli after a surprise deal was sealed.
The former Ministry of Defence depot — known as RN — in Llangennech has been bought by Carmarthenshire Council.
It comes after the centre — one half of Llangennech's defence storage and distribution centre — shut down in March last year, ending 19 months of campaigning and lobbying to save it.
There were 190 job losses as a result of the closure — a decision made by the MoD's Defence Storage and Distribution Agency (DSDA).
But, in a surprise turn of events, the Morwg Road depot has already attracted a private investor pledging to bring up to 400 jobs to the town.
Carmarthenshire Council chief executive Mark James said: "This is exciting and good news with the welcome potential of a substantial jobs boost for the town."

“More jobs?? part time most likely, who can live on min: wage for 20 - 30 hrs per week. What we want is proper jobs so that people can 'live'.
How much was it bought for and how long will it take for the rents to pay for it, more Council Tax to support it maybe!”

“This is good news for the community. I can't see it being a supermarket with the news that Tesco has finally had permission for Pontarddulais.”

“Well OK great but let's not get carried away yet. The council have bought the site - and it was up for sale anyway, not the developer who at the moment has only "pledged" to create "up to 400 jobs". Whilst this story is good news its too early yet to claim that this is a "jobs boost" as the headline claims. Sloppy journalism once again.”
