Job security is a problem
WHAT excellent articles highlighting the lack of job security in today's workplace (Post, October 17).
As a former employer, the two articles by Nino Williams regarding Wayne Phillips, former manager of Trencher's Café in the Quadrant, really brings home the lack of job security these days.
Here we have a manager with vast experience in the hospitality industry being made redundant after being hailed less than two months before.
I have had the pleasure of Mr Phillips's hospitality skills several years ago for two weddings whilst he was manager in the Dylan Thomas Centre.
Service and attention to detail was outstanding as well as the obvious staff enjoyment for working for him in a friendly, warm environment.
Trencher's loss at such an important time with Christmas coming and the inevitable crowds descending on the Quadrant centre will hopefully be another company's gain.
This seems to be the theme of employers today – not using the skilled staff they have in front of them.
I wish Mr Phillips the very best in the future, keeping up the standards of the hospitality trade.
