Jailed for spitting at former partner
A 50-YEAR-OLD man has been jailed for spitting in his former partner's face in Swansea's Quadrant shopping centre.
Sentencing Graham Neil Higgins to prison for 28 days, a District Judge said the incident was so "awful", only immediate custody would do. Swansea Magistrates' Court heard that on Christmas Eve last year Higgins went to the Quadrant bus station to confront his former partner, a bus driver.
However, she refused to argue with him, and he responded by spitting in her face.
Higgins, of Cambrian Place in Swansea's Maritime Quarter, had previously pleaded guilty to one count of assault by beating when he appeared at court.
Simon Howell, in mitigation, said what his client had done was "disgusting" and that he "bitterly regrets" what he did.
He said: "He fully acknowledges his behaviour was inappropriate. There was deep frustration at the breakdown of the relationship, and what he felt was her taking financial advantage of him.
"Mr Higgins struggles to deal with situations of confrontation in relationships — he finds it difficult to deal with rejection."
Higgins was given a 28-day jail term — of which he will serve half — and a two year restraining order banning him from contacting his former partner or going to her house.
District Judge Vivian Maning-Davies, sitting in the magistrates court, said custody was the only option.

“oy all of you. i am the son of graham higgins and to be honest i think it is a stupid thing of sending him down. I aint the brightest of people but to be honest i would love too see your faces when you just found out that your partner has robbed £30,000 in a briefcase that got left for you by your mother who passed away few years back. to be honest the person my dad offended is a b***h so no offence but i recon she deserved it. my dad fought for freedom in court when she took that money off him and lost and then he gets jailed for some petty crime that took place in swansea quadrant. Perfetic if you ask me, He deserves a medal. Peace out too the lot of ya”

Your suggestion that handyman's comment of 8 Feb at 9:24am is sexist has no substance.
It's not just spitting someone in the face. There is an assault by beating.”

“Dooyah,
All are equal in the eyes of the law. Treating someone differently because of their gender is a no no.
My concern is simply if it was her that had spat in his face what would have been the outcome and how would people on here have reacted to that?
Just thinking.”

Why do you think that it is sexist to refer Higgins, who admitted that he assaulted a woman by beating, as a woman beater?

Whilst a trial is in progress, it is sub-judice to publish anything that could be considered prejudicial.
It is quite common for newspapers to allow reader comments after trial.
To all those who red-arrowed my post of 12:15PM.
Please explain what is wrong with the Collins English Dictionary definition of "boo-boo"?”

“dogfa,
We don't have to look very far to discover your true opinion on women. Last week you were advocating nude dancing and guess what? The nude dancers were women.”

“Why is this article open, normally criminal reports are closed for comment? The Court has dealt with it, end of story. His behavior was atrocious; he has received a jail sentence”
