THE South and West Wales Association of Sea Angling Clubs meet on Tuesday, September 14, at the Mansel Club in Gowerton (8pm).

Chairman Alan Duthie has placed several items of importance on the agenda and is hoping for a good club and personal member attendance.

The allocation of £40,000 by the Countryside Commission for Wales to the Marine Conservation Society may be used to promote the need for no-take zones and their benefits in Welsh waters to the general public.

Association members will be given the opportunity to register their views.

In addition, the announcement of the winter league dates — November 28, December 12, February 13 and 27 — has created a lot of interest.

With all four venues scheduled to take place at Swansea Breakwater, it will be interesting to see if any cod are landed.

Indeed, it may be a good idea to make a careful count of the number of cod landed through the winter, especially following such a poor bass season.

It will be interesting to see if last season's late showing of 9-10 inch codling have developed.

Swansea Bay will be the back-up venue in the event of inclement weather affecting the breakwater.

A few of the summer league venues were fished at the breakwater and, surprisingly, 80 per cent of those who fished were personal members.

With this in mind, local new member anglers will be given the opportunity to join SSWASAC for a £10 fee, which will give them membership for the league and all next year's events with full insurance cover.

Much has been said over the years about the benefits of long casting in support of catching more fish.

Local angler Gareth Lloyd has confirmed that he will be starting a casting school.

This could take the form of personal tuition for individuals, clubs and juniors.

SWWASAC secretary Chris Isaac will also provide an update on the association's new website.
