SWANSEA is to switch to a new food hygiene rating system, along with every other council in Wales.

The decision to use the Scores on Doors food rating system follows concerns raised by the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health in Wales.

A Swansea Council spokesman said a recent survey had shown that some food businesses and eating establishments were not investing the necessary time or money into the correct food handling training. This could lead to food poisoning problems if not addressed, he said.

Kath Johnston, Swansea Council's food and safety divisional officer, said: ""Star ratings give people the opportunity to see if a business has good hygiene levels."
