Huw Jenkins salutes Swansea City boss Michael Laudrup ahead of Europa League meeting with Kuban Krasnodar
HUW Jenkins has saluted the efforts of Michael Laudrup as Swansea City go in search of the win which could push them into the last 32 of the Europa League.
Swansea host Kuban Krasnodar on Thursday night knowing victory would put them on the brink of the knockout stages.
And speaking ahead of the Kuban tie, Jenkins has paid tribute to the work done by Laudrup in 16 months as Swansea's manager.
"In the time he has been here, Michael has proved how important he is,” Jenkins said.
"I think he's brought different qualities and we've adapted as a team and as players.
"I think they've all grown and developed a little bit more responsibility in what they do, which Michael encourages.
"I think he's brought a winning mentality - he showed that last year when we won the Capital One Cup - and I’ve got no doubt that he’s going to try to push to get us as far as we can this year in the Europa League.
“He’s been a key ingredient and he’s a good man to work with - honest and trustworthy - and he’s got the same beliefs as us, so the relationship is a good one.”
Swansea have already turned heads in the Europa League by winning 3-0 at Valencia, and they followed that up with a narrow victory over St Gallen.
And Jenkins believes the club are gaining respect outside Britain because of their performances in Europe.
"I think the biggest thing when you look back is to gain respect in the football world," he added.
"Then you build up recognition that we’re not just participating but that we can compete at this stage and build our own brand as a football club.
"That's what we want - not only in our own country."
