Horgan set for a well-earned rest
GLAMORGAN have given Aussie strike bowler Michael Hogan a deserved rest with one eye on their YB40 semi-final against Hampshire next week.
After sealing a first knockout semi-final for nine years, the Welsh county were back in action today in a LV= County Championship second division match against Northamptonshire at Wantage Road.
Hogan has made a major impact at the club since his arrival from Western Australia, taking 85 wickets in all forms of cricket, including 55 in the first-class arena. His workload, though, has been heavy, and Glamorgan are keen to have the 32-year-old fresh for the big semi-final at The Ageas Bowl, which has been confirmed for Saturday, September 7 (12.45).
It will be the first time Glamorgan have been in a domestic knockout semi-final since their appearance at T20 Finals Day in Edgbaston in 2004.
The carrot on offer for Matthew Mott's side is a first Lord's final for 13 years, when they were beaten in a 50-over Benson and Hedges Cup Final by Gloucestershire.
With Hogan sitting out this week's match in the East Midlands Glamorgan have added the fit-again Mike Reed and John Glover to the squad that beat Leicestershire in Swansea — only their second Championship victory of the season.
That win by an innings and 37 runs has lifted the county up to sixth in the table with four matches remaining.
Left-arm spinner Dean Cosker, the match-winner on the final day at St Helen's, is again included, just days after revealing his frustration over a lack of progress over a new contract at the club.
The 35-year-old said: "It's a little bit gut-wrenching to find myself nearly at the end of August and nothing being on the table from Glamorgan or myself. I really want to commit myself to Glamorgan cricket.
"I'm a Welsh lad, I want to be playing cricket for Glamorgan for the rest of my foreseeable future. Hopefully, that's another four to five years minimum. But at the moment the club's position is not really budging on what they've sort of offered at the moment."
