Hopes high ferry will sail from Swansea to Cork tonight
The ferry service was meant to start on March 1, after a four-year absence, but it has been hit by delays.
Operator Fastnet Line said this morning: "We would like to inform passengers that the final certification surveys are continuing in Swansea today.
"These surveys are being conducted by the MCA (Maritime and Coastguard Agency) on behalf of the UK authorities and by the Department of the Marine on behalf of the Irish authorities.
"We are hopeful that both surveys will be completed by this afternoon and that the Julia will sail tonight from Swansea to Cork. The Julia has already received her passenger ship safety certificate."
Among the passengers hoping to sail this evening are Pontarddulais rugby club stalwart Gilbert Miles and four pals, who are heading to Ireland for the Six Nations rugby clash on Saturday.
The 28-year-old MV Julia is 154m long, can carry 1,800 passengers and 400 cars, and cost £6.9million.

“I am one of the four pals travelling with Gili Miles (hopefully) on board the Julia TONIGHT ,it's now 3.15 pm and we are cutting things a bit fine ,hopefully the certification will come through in time to sail to cork this evening . On another note the last ship to sail to Cobh ( our destination ) on its maiden voyage was the Titanic ,hope it's not an omen !! one way or another we will be in Ireland tomorrow .”
