Heritage website depicts Kenfig's rich history
A website project depicting Kenfig's rich and colourful history which was granted Welsh Government funding for the site & has been awarded Heritage Status currently attracts around 2.1million global visitors each year.
Kenfig - The Complete History (e-Resource) which was founded by Rob Bowen is divided into categories such as history, war years, community, folklore and the coast as well as having a colourful pictorial history of the area. Kenfig was once an important medieval town located on the coast between Port Talbot and Porthcawl - all the information for the site has been researched, edited and cross-referenced from public sources.
The project is being archived through the National Library of Wales and the British Library and is used as far away as America & Australia to help school pupils as well as college and university students learn about history; it is also used by government bodies for information. The project which started in 2003 is expected to grow even more due to its permanent heritage status. There are printed & ebook versions of the history of Kenfig to accompany the main website as well as dvd's and a three-dimensional model of the Castle and the town planned to outline what Kenfig might have looked like in medieval times.
The website contains the history of Margam & Port Talbot as well as Kenfig and its neighbouring villages of Maudlam, North & South Cornelly, Pyle, kenfig Hill, Cefn Cribbwr, Stormy Down, Nottage, Newton and the Victorian town of Porthcawl.
The site is bilingual in English & Welsh
