Helping Macsen to Play, Learn and Communicate
Macsen Williams is an amazing 18 month old. He was born with Cerebral Palsy, has Cortical Visual Impairment as well as other conditions.
Macsen has difficulty playing with traditional toys due to his severe cerebral palsy; therefore he is unable to learn from play as other children do. He also finds it difficult to communicate his needs and wants due his inability to speak or give hand signals. Even though this is the case both his parents and his health teams all believe that Macsen had normal intelligence, but is restricted from expressing or using it.
Recently Macsen was invited to trial eye gaze technology by Tobii. During the 1 hour session he was able to interact with the computer using multiple games all controlled by his eyes. During this time he showed clear understanding, problem solving skills and intelligence that he has not been able to before.
