HEAVY snow fell across parts of West Wales this morning (Friday), carpeting upland areas and closing many schools.

Pupils were given the day off except those teenagers sitting their AS and A level exams.

The top of the Gwendraeth Valley saw heavy snow fall and the M4 was down to one lane.

Snow also fell around the Lampeter area but other parts, including the lower Teifi Valley and Towy Valley were largely unaffected by major disruption.

Despite the clear roads, every school in Carmarthen with the exception of Model and Johnstown Primary closed in anticipation of bad weather.

Children at Ysgol Peniel, just north of Carmarthen, enjoyed a fun day after the school opened as normal.

Many business also remained closed as staff members stayed at home.

Bin lorry collections around Ammanford were cancelled as staff helped out with gritting.

Llandeilo and Glanaman Community Education Centres were also closed.

There were no reports of major accidents on the roads by the fire service.
