HEALTH bosses have backed plans to switch services away from a Swansea hospital allowing its sell-off.

They have given the green light to transfer services from Hill House Hospital in Cockett to both Singleton and Gorseinon hospitals instead.

The hospital will be closed next year.

Watchdogs at Abertawe Bro Morgannwg Community Health Council have already backed the scheme.

Paul Stauber, director of planning at Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board, said its chairman Win Griffiths had shown his support for the plans.

At the Swansea Civic Centre meeting, he said: "The CHC has agreed to the transfer of the services to Singleton.

"We allowed the chairman discretion to approve this plan in advance of this meeting.

"The chairman agreed to the proposal after November 15. We are just ratifying the chairman's actions."

Mr Stauber in a report to the board said "the site has formally been confirmed as surplus to health board requirements and that therefore the appropriate disposal process is being implemented."

The CHC agreed the changes following a six-week public engagement exercise carried out this autumn.
