SEVEN health care support workers are celebrating after delivering excellent results.

They have become the first accredited Maternity Care Assistants (MCA) in Abertawe Bro Morgannwg University Health Board.

The staff were recognised with certificates of achievement after successfully completing core units of the Agored Cymru programme. It now means they are able to carry out more roles and clinical duties within the maternity service.

The programme has helped the experienced healthcare support workers build on their knowledge allowing them to offer extra support to mums and newborn babies.

Amanda Morgan, maternity care assistant at Singleton Hospital, said: "I would definitely recommend other health care support workers to take part in the programme."
