RESIDENTS will back industrial action by staff in post offices due for closure and downgrading, according to Peter Hain.

Around 60 per cent of CWU (Communication Workers Union) members have voted in favour of taking action.

Neath MP Mr Hain said: "Post Office workers have overwhelmingly voted for industrial action over pay and the changes to the Crown Network.

"Neath Post Office is one of 70 earmarked to be re-established in the corner of a shop.

"Having met with local staff I fully support them in wanting to maintain the Crown Office in the town centre.

Mr Hain said the loss of the Crown branch would result in a dumbing down of services on offer, including passport checks.

He added: "It is totally unacceptable that the nearest Crown Office, if these changes went ahead, would be Bridgend or Merthyr Tydfil.

"I urge residents to get behind staff in their fight to stop the Neath office being downgraded and parked in the corner of a retail outlet."

“Peter hain should know a lot about dumbing things down since he became the M.P for Neath he has dumbed down Neath. Done nothing for the town, When his lot was in government they closed most of sub-post offices in the villages around I did not hear him protesting then, The sooner he goes with his cronies, the sooner Neath will rise again.”
