Hailstorm leads to five-vehicle crash near Bridgend

A freak hailstorm is believed to have caused a major crash between five vehicles on the M4 in South Wales.

The accident happened on the eastbound carriageway between Margam (junction 38), near Port Talbot, and Pyle (37), near Bridgend, after the alert was raised just after 12:30 today.

South Wales Police said they received "multiple reports" of the crash in which it is believed eight people were injured. However details of their injuries have not been released.

In a second incident, a car crashed down an embankment on the westbound side of the carriageway between Junction 34 at Miskin and Junction 35 at Pencoed.
