A NEW group has been set up to champion learning disability issues and to offer specialist advice to Welsh Government ministers on disability matters.

The Welsh Government is behind the group which is designed to help the Cardiff Bay administration's learning disability policy on issues, including social integration and tackling health inequalities.

Dr Roger Banks, a consultant psychiatrist with Betsi Cadwaladr University Health Board, and Sophie Hinksman, vice-chairwoman of All Wales People First, have been appointed co-chairs of the group.

Members will also be made up of voluntary organisations working in the learning disability field. Gwenda Thomas, Deputy Minister for Children and Social Services, said the group would help disability organisations get their voices heard.
