Griffiths is top dog at Gower
LAST week saw the second of this year's Gower Rockhoppers Mini-Opens at Mumbles.
The event was well attended with 50 anglers. Good numbers of dogfish were caught and also some tidy whiting, the biggest being 700g.

Dogfish, however, made up the top prizes.
First was Gareth Griffiths (Barry) 1,060g, ahead of Peter Evans of Swansea with 940g.
Peter Hammond of Ferryside was third with 840g, and joint fourth Geoff Stevens (Bridgend) and Chris Isaac (Swansea) with 800g.
HR Jones, Country Stores and Mainwaring's provided vouchers for the charity raffle. The next mini-open is this Sunday. Meet at 4.30pm, fishing is from 5.30pm to 9.30pm.
Meanwhile, the last in a series of three SWWASAC coaching sessions was held at the west pier last Saturday with 20 youngsters attending.
All the youngsters caught fish which included whiting, dogfish, pouting and gurnard, with bait supplied by Mainwaring's, SWWASAC chairman Alan Duthie and treasurer Dennis Davies.
A total of 65 junior anglers have attended the course and all have enjoyed themselves and gained a sound footing in sea angling.
Local schools and the police have also become involved and, along with Mainwaring's Angling Centre, have pledged their support for the next series.
This event could not have taken place without the help of Associated British Ports, Mainwaring's, South Wales Police and Swansea Council, plus SWWASAC coaches.
