South Wales Evening Post

AS a former Waunarlwydd resident, I wholeheartedly support the protest by the residents of Caer Gynydd Road (Post, February 18) against the LDP candidate site proposal for housing development on the village green-like space near the junction of Caer Gynydd Road and Bryn Road.

As someone who travels often along Caer Gynydd Road, I am dismayed this pleasant green site is under threat from what amounts to unnecessary “overdevelopment”.

The residents of Caer Gynydd Road should be congratulated for their resolve in protesting against a candidate site proposal which appears to me to be insensitive to the feelings of local people.

In view of the amount of development that has gone on in Waunarlwydd and Gowerton in recent years and the fact the new LDP also contains numerous housing developments via candidate site proposals, it really does appear that, as an earlier correspondent to the Evening Post suggested, “Every green space in the city area is under threat”.

I don’t think we should ever underestimate the value of our remaining green and wooded quiet places in our towns, villages and housing estates and their contribution to the quality of life and we should all be as alert to challenge any changes in planning laws that threaten their existence.

As the residents of Caer Gynydd Road, Waunarlydd, clearly are. Diolch yn fawr Caer Gynydd!

“In May this year , the Government are going to change the " Growth & Infrastructure Bill " ( clause 14: schedule 4: )--- meaning, this Bill will make matter's very difficult for people to register parcels of land in their areas as an Town Village Green (TVG)!
Any persons in the Swansea area, who have observed signs that have been erected by CCS on - around parcels of land near their homes & communities should register them as an Village Green within two years of these Council signs being erected ( April 2012 )!
I strongly advise people to act now for ( TVG) status before these deadline dates run out !
You can logon to " OPEN SPACES SOCIETY" for online help & advice on (TVG's )!”
