Grabham's two tries send Wizards packing
FOR the third week in succession Aberavon suffered defeat.
The frustrating thing is that with ten minutes remaining in each match they have been on course for at least a bonus point — and possibly a win.
After 70 minutes at the Brewery Field it was 22-16 to the hosts, though Bridgend always looked capable of winning.
For the first 25 minutes of the second half Aberavon had the majority of possession and they huffed and puffed at the Bridgend line.
But their defensive wall did not fall down. Not only that, but the Ravens came back with tries from Ospreys wing Tom Grabham in the 70th and 78th minutes to clinch their first win.
Aberavon were well served by Rowan Jenkins, Lee Purnell and Chris Davies up front and Bridgend by flankers Arthur Ellis and Jac Hopkins.
Behind the scrum, full-back Jon Phillips caught well under pressure.
Bridgend played the better rugby, with both sides awarded a penalty try when the other team was a player short.
At 22-16, Luke Morgan and Jamie Murphy sent Grabham over and he scored again from a pass by scrum-half Chris Williams.
The answer to Aberavon's problems surely must be tries, as their six is the lowest in the division and they are finding it hard to unlock opposition defences at present.
