Gower temporary folk camp application recommended for refusal
A FOLK society has requested permission to use a Gower field for a temporary folk camp.
Folk Camp Society Ltd has applied to hold a camp for a maximum of 40 units from July 20 to August 16 at Weobley Castle Farm, Llanrhidian.
Council planners have recommended refusal stating that it would have a detrimental impact upon the visual amenities and would encourage other developments of a similar nature.
The application will be discussed by the development control committee tomorrow.

“Maybe they shouldn't have asked. I would suggest they put their tents up next to the other unapproved tent at the Oxwich Bay Hotel if they wish to stay on Gower. Alternatively, they could pay to appeal the decision (which is probably the angle the Council Planners are working to increase revenue). Ask the locals what they think rather than allowing the townies to make decisions based on their Sunday drives.”

“No problem send them over to us in Swansea Vale the council allow any sort of camping on the Park and Ride site and you don't have to pay.Don't forget to write to the council via the consultation process(joke) to register your dis belief at a proposed 2nd site in the ward.”

“When you read about the antics at these events, morris dancing, accordion playing, etc, it comes as no surprise SCC would want to put a stop to them.
No doubt the Gower Folk Festival will be getting their marching orders in due course.

“I'd guess that the ones granted did not want to take it over for a whole month at the height of the tourism season.”

“It's obvious susqzz, refusal is recommended because it "would encourage other developments of a similar nature" and thereby bring a few quid into the area.
Shortsightedness to the point of chronic myopia.”

“A quick check through the "planning portal" shows about 50 applications for temporary caravan or camp sites over the last 3 years on the Gower,......including a number at this site. Not one has been refused. (Way too much time on my hands this week!). I am intrigued as to why a "folk camp" should be so damaging to the local envoironment when other applications are accepted in such high numbers. They're far preferable to the stag parties.”
