Gower project secures £700,000 for new training centre
A GOWER project has been awarded more than £700,000 to build a training centre with a difference.
Disadvantaged people from Swansea and further afield will construct the timber and glass building themselves while on accredited courses.
The centre at Little Bryn Gwyn, near Cilibion, Gower, will have round-hole timber framing, with straw-bale walls and a vegetation-covered roof.
The £716,529 grant to Down to Earth Project has come from the Big Lottery Fund.
Down to Earth Project secured planning permission for the six-acre site earlier this year.
A residential building will also be built there, plus other outbuildings.
Delighted project founder and director Mark McKenna said: “Using traditional and sustainable building methods, the grant will enable hundreds of ‘hard to reach’ participants over three years to access accredited training opportunities whilst building the new centre.”
