THE Welsh Government has published statutory guidance for public services on Preparing for a Changing Climate.

It will assist organisations such as local authorities, health services, the fire service, Natural Resources Wales and the National Park Authorities to assess how they may be affected by climate change and produce plans to manage it.

For example, a health board will look at how extreme weather events will impact on their ability to maintain service levels and, if necessary, handle extra numbers of patients. Issues to consider in a changing climate include keeping buildings open, staffing them, providing an ambulance service and dealing with extra demands on services.

Environment Minister John Griffiths said: "It is very apt that we are launching this guidance during Climate Week. The Welsh Government is committed to taking action on things that benefit people's everyday lives.

“Siriad, and of course we mustn't overlook the fact that all these doom and gloom reports are always written by those who have a vested interest in perpetuating the myth. For example if these advisers didn't keep plugging the same old nonsense they would be instantly out of a job.

I especially like the way they always insert the word 'Independent' in their title. It's like vegans being asked to write a report on the meat industry and insisting they are independent.

It's interesting to note that the people who keep pushing this don't seem too overbright.”

“So what are you trying to say siarad2, there was no need for Australia to set up an independent Climate Commission, all they had to do was ask you ha ha ha ha ha ha ha”

“Australia's summer occurs when the Earth is receiving the maximum sun energy, the closest approach to the sun & longest day is 4 January whereas this keeps our winters warmer. Likewise 4 July, the shortest day, is the coolest time. The variation is 7%, therefore we have the least variation between winter & summer & Oz the maximum so equating the two isn't accurate.
I can't comment on the 'fundamental shifting' without evidence, come back in 11 years if I'm still extant.”

“Great to see the WG taking the lead on this most important issue. We live in a world where increasingly climate change and extreme weather is taking it's toll.

Only this week a report has been issued in Australian gov showing the dangers and cost of climate change

A report by Australian government advisers this week unequivocally and directly links the summer's extreme weather to climate change, and should make the link harder to ignore in future. Climate scientists have been historically reluctant to link the two – particularly in a country like Australia which has naturally occurring cycles of drought and floods and is naturally a land of weather extremes.

But the report "Angry Summer", released by the Australian government's independent Climate Commission, argues that this summer's conditions were different due to their record-breaking intensity and duration, and "were all influenced by a climate that is fundamentally shifting".”

“What absolute tosh. More money chucked down the 'Gobal Ice Age' oops no that didn't happen, 'Global Warming' no that didn't happen either, 'Climate Change' ( safe ground at last) drain.

For Pete's sake it has recently been disclosed that over 30,000 people are dying needlessly in our hospitals each year. Can we please stop killing people before worrying about saving the planet from a non existent threat!”

“Woken up at last that reducing CO2 isn't working.
King Canute knew it & we've been fiddling while the Earth burns, now get with it & cope with the change NOW.”
