Gorse ablaze on Kilvey Hill

A SWATHE of Kilvey Hill went up in smoke yesterday afternoon.

Fire crews from Swansea Central and Morriston stations spent around two hours dealing with the burning gorse, using beaters and hoses.

A Mid and West Wales Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said the blaze was in a difficult-to-access area, and that it was not clear how the fire, on the south-facing slope, started.

He added that the ground was currently dry and that there was plenty of "fuel" — foliage and the like — present due to the wet spring and summer.
