Glass ban plea for pubs
NIGHTCLUBS and pubs where violent fights regularly break out should be forced to serve drinks in plastic bottles and cups, a Welsh MP has said.
Labour's Ian Lucas said local authorities should be allowed to ban venues from serving drinks in glasses where there had been a history of assaults.
Too many youngsters were being left with deep scarring after being glassed in clubs and pubs, he said.
Proposing his Plastic Glasses and Bottles (Mandatory Use) Bill, Mr Lucas (Wrexham) said: "Violent incidents and attacks on our constituents, particularly young people, remain common. The Government needs to ensure that local authorities use the powers they have to promote the use of plastic bottles in pubs and clubs where there is a history of violent incidents."

“There is a simple solution. Ban the troublemakers from all pubs for 5 years+. If they break the ban then send them to jail. The trouble would be over pretty quickly. For the real troublemakers they could implant a pill in their bodies that make them violently ill if the drink alcohol. Plenty of solutions but no-one with the guts to sort it out.”

“And so the oppressive government removes yet another weapon from the hands of those who seek to defend themselves from evil. What next, sporks?”

“Stork what you are saying is a recipe for even more violence. What is to stop one landlord from paying a gang of men to go and fight in another pub.
BY the way it wasn't Queen Victoria, but Oscar Wilde, u do make me laugh. I'm sure U set out to make an idiot of yourself deliberately sometimes”

“I had a close friend who was a police Chief Inspector in Cardiff. If there were fights inside a pub/club, and the police were called. He would have a quiet word with the landlord a few days later, and explain using phraseology from Queen Victoria. One fight is "unfortunate" two or more fights "plain carelessness", and the landlord's licence would be opposed by the police at the next licencing session. It might seem unfair to some people, but it worked, except for one large pub where fights continued. That pub is now no longer.”

“It is sad but Wind St can be a frightening place on a busy Saturday. Some people just don't give a **** and want a scrap no matter what. Plastic glasses would go some way to help prevent the damaged caused in some fights but it is only papering over some cracks.
A lot of fights in pubs and clubs do not involve weapons at all so plastic glasses while elimates some problems does not solve the overall violence problems.”

“well thats wind street shut down then! Most of the fights on a weekend happen there, when bus loads of stag night revellers descend there what do you expect. It would take a very brave or stupid bouncer to deny 10-20 of these guys entry. All they can do is let them in and hope there is no trouble. Not an ideal situation but what other choice do they have?”

“immigrant1 they would be the pubs and clubs without bouncers. There days most fights take place in the street. It was different in my back, back then u threw a chair or table at someone, next thing u knew everyone was shaking hands.,”

“bennyhill4 - its only the bad pubs and clubs that let these people in. The good places wouldn't let them in, so they'd have nowhere to go to if the bad places shut down. Of course, the troublemakers should be punished, but the clubs and pubs should also be keeping order. All this trouble is often down to bad management.”

“Very sad that it has come to this. But add plastic glasses to warm, flat beer, queuing to get served, getting ripped off at the bar and being bumped into by idiots intent on causing trouble - I think I will stay local or at home of a Friday or Saturday night. Must be getting old!”
