GLAMORGAN are on the verge of signing Aussie paceman Shaun Tait for next summer's Twenty20 assault.

The Welsh county have made no secret that they need a vanguard for their bowling attack in the short form of the game, and the South Australian appears to fit the bill.

Tait, who has played 22 one-day internationals and was part of Australia's World Cup triumph two years ago, burst on to the scene with his slingy action and was dubbed 'The Wild Thing' back home in Australia.

Exhaustion

He took a break from the game last year because of 'mental and physical exhaustion', but former Glamorgan bowler Jason Gillespie believes the 26-year-old would be an ideal addition to the squad for the high-tempo Twenty20 format.

"I did mention to Matthew Maynard when I played with Glamorgan that he would be someone he should look at some time down the track," said Gillespie.

"He's an attacking, wicket-taking bowler, which is exactly what you need in Twenty20.

"He would be a fantastic acquisition."

Glamorgan are understood to be close to tying up the deal, with director of cricket Matthew Maynard stating this week: "We're looking for a quick bowler.

Batsmen

"The guys we've signed are primarily batsmen and we're a little short on bowlers for the Twenty20."

Meanwhile, Glamorgan are set to confirm the departure of second XI coach Adrian Shaw in the wake of the recent review undertaken by the club's hierarchy.

Shaw has enjoyed 20 years with the county and was wicketkeeper during the championship-winning campaign of 1997.

The 37-year-old was appointed first-team coach for the 2007 season following the departure of John Derrick, but last term was put in charge of second XI duties.
