Glamorgan ban Ynysygerwn members after crowd abuse
SOME members of Ynysygerwn Cricket Club have been banned from future Glamorgan matches following abusive behaviour during Sunday's CB40 game against Sussex at St Helen's.
Glamorgan have acted swiftly in what they have described as a 'zero-tolerance policy', naming the Neath Valley club and banning the individuals involved from any home games in the future.
They have also withdrawn Glamorgan players Will Bragg and David Harrison — who are allocated to play for Ynys in the Swalec Premier League — from playing for them again this season.
The county say some Glamorgan players were the targets of abusive chanting during the game from a group of around 20 supporters, some of whom were identified by Glamorgan players as being from Ynysygerwn.
Leading
Ynysygerwn are one of the leading clubs in South Wales and members of the new Premier League, where a number of the Glamorgan squad also play.
Bragg and Harrison have been turning out for Ynys this season, but following Sunday's game the pair have now been withdrawn for the rest of the campaign.
The Glamorgan statement read: "Glamorgan Cricket deeply regrets the abusive behaviour of a minority of supporters (approximately 20) at last Sunday's CB40 match against Sussex at St Helen's. Glamorgan Cricket wishes to reaffirm that such behaviour will not be tolerated.
"The behaviour of the group, from Ynysygerwn Cricket Club — including a number of their first XI players and coaches — caused huge upset to the players and coaching staff from both teams.
"In addition, families amongst the 2,000 supporters who came along to enjoy what was a glorious day and a good game of cricket had their enjoyment ruined.
"Glamorgan Cricket has a zero tolerance policy towards such behaviour and the club has already made contact with representatives from Ynysygerwn Cricket Club to inform them, that with immediate effect, neither Will Bragg nor David Harrison will be made available to them for the remainder of the current season.
Banned
"Glamorgan Cricket have asked Ynysygerwn to supply the names of those involved, all of whom will be banned from attending any home Glamorgan match in the future.
"The five-day festival in Swansea was a huge success and Glamorgan are extremely grateful for the support and hard work provided by the (St Helen's) Balconiers.
"It is therefore doubly disappointing that a small minority of dreadfully behaved (so-called) supporters have taken the gloss off what was a successful five-day cricket festival."
Responding to the statement Ynysygerwn secretary Jeff Thomas said: "We have been made aware by Glamorgan that some players attended the match in a private capacity — there was no organised trip from Ynysygerwn Cricket Club — and concerns have been raised.
"We are having discussions with Glamorgan and have launched an internal investigation."
Glamorgan have also apologised to Sussex, whose chief executive Dave Brooks said: "I was with the players for the Twenty20 Cup quarter-final at Trent Bridge on Monday and nothing was mentioned.
"The first thing I actually heard about it was an email of apology from Alan Hamer (Glamorgan chief executive) this morning, which was very kind.
"Since that I have spoken to the coach, who told me there was a boisterous group of people who were making offensive comments to both sets of players, which was unfortunate.
"We have no intention of making a formal complaint to Glamorgan. We have the note this morning and we think they have handled it extremely well and are grateful to them for that prompt action in this matter."

“Yes. Well done Glammy.
Must say, though, that I am surprised! My son played many times at Ynys (not FOR them) and we always found it a nice club to go to.”

“Well done Glamorgan Cricket you have taken the correct action to stop these abusive yobs, perhaps they will think twice if they want to carry out this type of behavior.”
