Geraint Davies hopes to entice Slovakians to Swansea for Dylan Thomas centenary
SWANSEA MP Geraint Davies is hoping to encourage Slovakians to visit South Wales as part of next year's Dylan Thomas celebrations.
The Swansea West MP arranged a meeting with Miroslav Lajcak, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs in the Slovak Republic at Westminster earlier this week, when Mr Lajcak was on an unrelated visit to the UK.

They agreed that Mr Davies would liaise with the Slovak Ambassador to get a Slovak presence at celebrations in order to mark the centenary of the Welsh poet's birth.
He said: "I'm using my position as Swansea West MP to gather international cultural support for our Dylan Thomas centenary celebrations in 2014 and was pleased to get such a positive reception from the Slovak Deputy Prime Minister."

Last week Mr Davies revealed that a Bob Dylan concert in Swansea had moved a step closer after his manager requested a summer 2014 date.
The legendary American singer songwriter, who changed his name from Robert Zimmerman to honour his favourite poet, Dylan Thomas, has been mulling over an invitation to perform in the city as part of the centenary events.
Mr Davies asked if he would perform at the city's Liberty Stadium to mark the centenary of poet Dylan's Cwmdonkin Drive birth in 2014.
The 71-year-old singer was said to prefer a summer gig because the autumn months might be too cold and wet.
Revealing the news in the House of Commons recently, Mr Davies said: "Well, the times they are a-changing, and I have had a letter from Bob Dylan's manager to say that he would prefer to perform in the summer."
He added: "It would be a much more successful event if it was held in the summer, which is what we're now talking about, and I'm giving some encouragement for that to go ahead.
''The impression I get is they're trying to make it work.
''Bob Dylan has just done a European tour and is planning another in October/November 2014, so his manager is looking at a date before that.''

“Lets not forget that the The Hungarian Dual Language School Gimnazium Balatonalmadi studied the works of Shakespeare and Dylan Thomas as part of their English Literature studies.
Students paid many visits to Cwmdonkin Park, The Dylan Thomas Centre and the boathouse.
Headteacher Dr Sandor Czuksor was given the Freedom of Carmarthenshire for his Bi Lateral Educational Exchanges. I was part of that project.
Hungary spearheaded by Dr Czuksor has had sporting and cultural links with Swansea, Llanelli and Carmarthenshire for twenty years. Same applies for Slovenia.”
