Gates up on fast-track link
SECURITY gates that will prevent cars driving along the new purpose built bus lanes have been installed.
Swansea Council said the specially-designed gates will ensure that only authorised public transport will be able to use the one mile stretch of highway.
The council has invested £2.8 million in the construction of the fast track, which will allow park and ride vehicles to travel directly from the Landore site into the city centre, slashing minutes off the normal journey time.
The security gates have been installed by specialist company ATP Controls.
Chris Rowlands, general manager of APT, said: "It is imperative for a new traffic improvement schemes to be kept for its intended purpose, in this case, giving buses a clear route through Swansea City Centre."
Geoff Sheel, interim head of transportation for Swansea Council, said: "The new express road will provide buses travelling from Landore Park and Ride with a much quicker route into the city centre. Other public transport will also be able to use the road for faster access to and from the city centre."
Funding for the scheme has come via an Assembly transport grant and Objective One.
